Slippery Rock University is seeking applicants for temporary Connector Corps AmeriCorps members who will serve in Butler, Mercer, Lawrence and Venango Counties at various faith-based and nonprofit organizations and schools to perform duties such as staff children’s summer recreation programs and after-school programs, weatherize homes for low-income families, seniors and people with disabilities and to provide information and referral to individuals and families impacted by the economic crisis. At their sites AmeriCorps members would be expected to build capacity in the organization to coordinate new programs and to encourage volunteerism in the community. In addition to duties at their sites, members will participate in an orientation, monthly professional development workshops, and All-Corps service projects during their term. Several different types of positions and terms are available from which to choose. Each type of member commits to serve a set number of hours by their term end date and receives a bi-monthly living allowance during that term. Upon completion of their term and service hours, members will receive a post-service education award that can be used to pay for tuition, room and board or can be applied to outstanding school loans. School loans can be deferred while actively serving as an AmeriCorps member. The chart below details options for hourly commitments, term of service dates and the corresponding living allowance and education award amounts.
