SRU graduate becomes statewide education reviewer

Toni Mild, a Slippery Rock University graduate, has been selected by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to be an application content reviewer for the state’s Chapter 49-2 Special Education Certification Program. The program requires institutions to produce evidence that their graduates know how to apply successful teaching concepts.

Mild will evaluate the effectiveness of teacher-preparation programs statewide to determine whether institutions are providing adequate instruction so that teacher-education graduates meet the Chapter 49-2 competency standards.

She will also review institutions’ online applications to determine whether faculty assigned to courses as well as course syllabi meet the certification requirements.

Mild, who received her master’s degree in special education from SRU in 2000, has 12 years experience in the education field. She is a professor of elementary and secondary education Thiel College. She has worked as a special education supervisor and emotional support teacher in Mercer and Lawrence counties.

Slippery Rock University is Pennsylvania’s premier public residential university.
