John Snyder

John Snyder, Co-Director of Career Services, has been with Slippery Rock University since August 1988. While he works with all SRU students and alumni, his areas of emphasis are education, exercise science, staff training, and career development. He is the campus administrator for several standardized testing programs including Praxis, the Miller Analogies Test, the GRE Subject Tests, the Certified Health Education Specialist exam, and the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam. He also works in the press box for Rock football and is the PA announcer for Rock men's and women's basketball.

John has served as president of the Pennsylvania Association for Colleges and Employers (PennACE) and the Middle Atlantic Association for Employment in Education (MAEE) as well as a board member for the American Association for Employment in Education (AAEE) and a presenter at national, regional, and state professional conferences. Currently, he is the treasurer for the Pittsburgh Education Recruitment Consortium (PERC).

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, John served as a school counselor at Mentor High School, a career counselor at Baldwin-Wallace College, and an English teacher at Lexington and Mansfield Madison School Districts (all in Ohio) before coming to Slippery Rock University. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in English from Muskingum College, John was awarded a Master of Education in Counseling from Cleveland State University

 
Tony Linnan

Tony joined SRU Career Services in October, 1996, and currently serves as a Co-Director responsible for Employer Relations. He focuses on creating opportunities for students and alumni to connect with employers regarding employment or internships. Questions about interview preparation, job fairs, campus recruiting, strategies for finding employment, on-line job posting or SRU resume database should be directed to his attention. Before coming to The Rock, Tony's previous professional experience in higher education included Career Services, Admissions, Student Activities, Outdoor Recreation, and Intercollegiate Athletics.

Tony earned a Master of Education degree in Elementary Education, Emphasis in Educational Leadership, from Clarion University and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, Concentrations in Psychology and Sociology, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP).

 
Michelle Stenander

Michelle became a staff member in 2007. Serving in both the Career Services and Financial Aid offices, she primarily coordinates part-time employment, work study/campus jobs, and the Summer Job and Internship Fair. She has extensive non-profit, volunteer and event planning experience. In addition, she was employed as a Secretary/Bookkeeper for Hickory UMC for 9 years.

Michelle has attended ITT and Hiram College majoring in Business Management Accounting. Currently she is taking classes at SRU and is majoring in Professional Studies. She lives in Hermitage with husband, Mark daughter, Chelsea and son, James. James is a Slippery Rock University student as well.

Renee Coyne

Renee Coyne, Assistant Director of Career Services, joined the Slippery Rock Community in February 2009. Through her position, she is able to assist students in researching internship opportunities, discovering career opportunities in the Non-profit sector, exploring major and career options for undecided students, tailoring their resumes and cover letters to emphasize their skills. She works closely with the web-based technology used in the office and can answer questions about College Central Network, Linked In, searching and applying for jobs via the internet, and how to handle social networking sites while transitioning from college to a professional position.

Before coming to SRU, Renee specialized in creating and implementing educational programs for Non-profits, most recently, the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and a minor in English from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. She firmly believes in strengthening your community through service and on days off can be found volunteering at the Grove City Community Food Pantry.

 
Amanda Hoffman

Mandy grew up near Harrisburg, PA and attended Messiah College for her bachelor's degree. While there, she spent a year undeclared and then tested the waters in the communication department before choosing her final major: humanities with a concentration in literature. She supplemented her academics with a semester abroad in England and two years as a Resident Assistant.

After graduating from Messiah in 2007, she worked for a year as an Admission Counselor at Houghton College in up-state New York. This experience and her undergraduate involvement in Residence Life confirmed her passion for higher education and the college student population. Mandy is now pursuing a Master of Arts in Community Counseling from SRU with the goal of becoming a counselor on a college campus. This is her second year working in the Office of Career Services, where she enjoys her frequent interactions with students and the professional, yet fun atmosphere within the office.

 
Kourtney Shick

Kourtney holds a Graduate Assistantship as a Career Counselor in the Office of Career Services at Slippery Rock University. Kourtney is in her second year of graduate school at Slippery Rock. She is pursuing a Masters Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education. Kourtney graduated from Thiel College in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Since coming to Slippery Rock University as a graduate student, Kourtney has held her assistantship in the office since August 2008. She has worked with undergraduate, graduate, alumni, and high school students in helping them prepare and make decisions regarding their careers in college and professionally.

In addition to career counseling appointments, Kourtney has worked at job fairs for Slippery Rock students on campus and at other sites in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In November 2008, Kourtney was a co-presenter at a conference in Pittsburgh for the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (PSAHPERD) students. In July 2009, Kourtney and a colleague co-wrote an online blog article for the American Association for Employment in Education (AAEE) entitled "Virtual Job Fair Advantages and Tips". Kourtney is a member of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the National Association of Student Personnel Administration (NASPA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and the National Career Development Association (NCDA). Upon her anticipated graduation in May 2010, Kourtney hopes to continue to work in a career services or career development office.

 
Ingrid Beute

Ingrid Beute is a Graduate Assistant/Career Counselor for the Office of Career Services. She also serves as a liaison officer for the Multicultural Office. She is currently studying for the Masters Degree in Student affairs in Higher Education, with a strong interest in the international and diversity aspect within student affairs.

Born in South Africa (SA), Ingrid earned her BMUS and Graduate Performance Diploma from the University of the Witwatersrand. She worked as a concert pianist and orchestral pianist with the National Symphony Orchestra in Johannesburg. As an active performer she appeared with all the major orchestras in South Africa and Bophuthatswana and gave solo recitals in the major centers of the country. In 1990, Ingrid represented SA at the annual International Piano Competition in Marsala, Italy, where she won third prize overall. In the same year she received the Adcock Ingram Prize for best South African pianist during the TRANSNET International Piano Competition, held at the University of South Africa. During her professional career as performer and music teacher she was a member of the South African Music Teacher's Organization and frequently discussed matters such as how to prepare for international music competitions.

After a few years in the profession, Ingrid moved to the US, where she completed a Masters Degree in Music from the College Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1998, she traveled with the Cincinnati contemporary ensemble to Portugal, performing at the Lisbon International Music Festival. Her summers were devoted to working as a faculty member and Artist in Residence at the Luzerne Music Festival, NY, where she also enjoyed having the additional responsibility as a camp counselor.

As a student at UC, Ingrid became actively involved in the International Student Organization. Living and working in community service among students from all cultural, religious and racial backgrounds created her strong interest and passion for diversity and international affairs.

Before coming to Slippery Rock University, Ingrid moved to Venezuela with her husband and son, where she worked for 5 years as Fine Arts Coordinator and taught K-12music, high school drama and sixth grade life skills teacher at Colegio Internacional de Carabobo, the American, and International School in Valencia.

Most recently she started working as Career Counselor in the Office of Career Services at SRU, and had the opportunity to attend the (Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Employers) PENNACE conference last spring. Ingrid received the opportunity to write and publish her article "Learning and Growing through International Teaching" in the July issue of edweek.org.

 
Amanda Bangor

Amanda Bangor is a student in the School Counseling program at Slippery Rock. Prior to attending S.R.U., she enjoyed two years as the Retreat Coordinator and Registrar at Camp Lutherlyn in Prospect, PA. Amanda graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Geneva College where she was involved in Psi Chi (a psychology honors society), sang in Geneva's Touring Choir, and studied abroad in Sydney, Australia.
