SRU-related photos available online from flickr.com

Downloading instructions:

Most photos taken by Slippery Rock University’s University Public Relations photographers, including student staff, are mounted to the Web at www.flickr.com.
The SRU photos are available for viewing and downloading by anyone working on a brochure, poster, PowerPoint presentation, or other project that requires photography or University-related graphics.
Those needing approved University logos, seals, directional and campus maps and other University-related graphics should visit the University Public Relations Web page at: http://www.sru.edu/pages/384.asp for further instructions.
Those using the free Flickr site do not need to register, create an account or logon to download photos. Once at the site, simply search for photos using appropriate keywords, make a selection, then download directly to a computer, memory stick or CD.
Materials downloaded may not be used for any commercial use. Persons or organizations that wish to use any SRU photo on a product or a production that will be sold for any purpose, must have prior approval from University Licensing. For details visit: http://administration.sru.edu/publicrelations/licensing/index.html.

All photos taken since the start of fall semester 2009 are now online. Work to migrate photos and graphics from previous semesters will continue throughout the year.
Although SRU’s photos are being loaded to the Flickr Web site, they will also be stored on a University server for posterity. The program calls for most photos to be posted to the site within a week of being taken.

Quick Steps to download SRU photos from Flickr:
Go the Flickr site at: www.flickr.com
In the Search box, type “SRUPR” and any other appropriate tags (see detailed instructions below) – i.e. spring commencement 2009 (no commas are necessary, only a space between tags)

Select appropriate photo;
Right click on photo, then select “Save Photo As”)
When box opens, enter appropriate file name and the destination folder
Click “Save”

(Repeat for additional photos)

Detailed Steps to download SRU photos from Flickr:
Photos may be retrieved by submitting “tags” in the Flickr “Search” box.
Tags are keywords that have been assigned to a photo linking it to a campus event, building, semester and year.
All photo searches seeking official Slippery Rock University Public Relations photographs must include the tag “SRUPR” – to ensure the photos returned for review were taken by the University Public Relations

Office and are available for appropriate University use. (Without the “SRUPR” tag, photos returned may have been taken by others who also post to Flickr. Such photos should not be used without the photographer’s permission.)
Additional tags, specific to the campus event sought by the viewer, such as “Commencement,” “WOW,” “Old Main,” “Awards,” “Scholars,” “Football,” “Hockey,” “Advanced Technology and Science Hall,” “Old Main,” “University Union” etc., may be added as part of the initial search and will aid in delivery of appropriate photos.
Photos are posted with an appropriate semester tag (spring, summer or winter) and by the year in which they were taken. Tags that require more than one word must be placed within quotes: “Old Main” or “Spotts World Culture Building.” Single word tags, need only a space between tags. For example: SRUPR commencement spring 2009 will return all of SRU’s spring 2009 commencement photos.
To view all of the SRU-posted photos enter “SRUPR” as the only tag.
Events are tagged by their official event name, for example, “Kaleidoscope,” rather than “art festival” and “Boozel Dining Hall” rather than “cafeteria.” Generic photos showing the beauty of campus – spring blossoms, fall leaves, crisp snow, with or without people – carry a “Beauty Shot” tag.
Posted photos are usually not tagged with individuals’ names. All players’ names in the football team photo do not carry an individual name tags. However, special visitors – Jack Hanna, John Cavanaugh, Chelsey Clinton, Edward Rendell, Al Sharpton, or other campus visitors – will receive name-specific tags.

As a means of helping locate specific photos, a tag citing the building location where the photo was taken has also been included for each photo. (Miller Auditorium, University Union, McKay Education Building, Quad, etc.)
To download a photo of interest to your computer, click on the photo to see an enlarged version, or right click on the photo. Choose “Save Image As,” then insert an appropriate filename for the photo and select a folder location on the computer where the download will be stored.
All photos should be downloaded using the “Original Size” option to ensure the downloaded photo is of sufficient quality for print reproduction, which requires a minimum 300 dpi. Nearly all SRU photos were uploaded in the “jpg” format.
Photos stored on the previous system (pre-fall semester 2009) will remain available until they have all been migrated to the new Flickr site.
