SCHOOL NURSE
The legally mandated School Health Program of the Commonwealth requires that school districts provide nursing services to school children. A school nurse is responsible for assessing the health needs of pupils and school personnel, planning ways to meet these needs, implementing health plans, and evaluating the health programs within the school. Successful completion of the program in school nursing qualifies the student for certification as an Education Specialist I. The School Nurse Program builds upon the nursing major courses for the BSN curriculum and generally requires 6 credits beyond the l20 credits (if taken while enrolled in the BSN program). Post baccalaureate students complete the certificate program with 12 credits.
