PARADE OF FLAGS TO
OPEN SRU’S 28TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL
DINNER
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A parade of international
flags representing the home countries of Slippery Rock University
international students will open the university’s
28th annual International Dinner set for Nov. 9 in the
University Union.
Sponsored
by SRU’s Office of International Initiatives, the 7 p.m.
dinner, will feature dishes from more than 65 countries. The event
is usually a sell out. Tickets, $15 for the general public, $8 for
SRU students and $6 for children under age 6, are available in Room
110 of Eisenberg Classroom Building.
Pam
Frigot, international student adviser and event organizer, reports
this year’s menu of 64 dishes will include deviled prawns
from Sri Lanka, potato curry from India, shepherd pie from Ireland
and banana pie from Dominica and St. Lucia. Desserts will include
anzac biscuits from Australia and lachee asada (a flan/pudding)
from Peru, among others.
She
explains that SRU’s international students bring, or write
home for, family-favorite recipes then shop for ingredients before
turning them over to ARAMARK, the campus food vendor. Together the
students and ARAMARK chefs then prepare the meal. “This
is an opportunity for our international students to show their home
cultures and an opportunity for our students and those in the local
community to see the diversity international students bring to our
campus and region,” Frigot explains.
The
evening’s program will conclude with after-dinner
entertainment provided by the international students showing off
the entertainment of their home countries.
