» ‘DEAR SANTA’ IS THEME FOR MUSICIANS’ CONCERT BAND PERFORMANCE AT SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – More than a dozen seasonal tunes will be part of the Musicians’ Concert Band and Holiday Chorus “Dear Santa” concert set for 4 p.m. Dec. 8. in Slippery Rock University’s Miller Auditorium.

»  PUBLIC INVITED TO PROMOTE GREEN HOLIDAY AT SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Make environmentally friendly gifts for the holidays such as bird feeders, candles or wrapping paper. Pick up a booklet of helpful hints for promoting a green holiday, in and outside your house, or sample  homemade baked goods.  It’s all part of a winter Earth Day event 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday [Dec. 3] at Slippery Rock University’s University Union. Activities are open to the public.

» 17TH ANNUAL SRU/SLIPPERY ROCK ‘LIGHT UP NIGHT’ INCLUDES SANTA VISIT AND MUSIC
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University and the Slippery Rock community will join forces at 7 p.m. Sunday [Nov. 24] for the 17th annual “Light Up Night,” officially opening the holiday season with music and a visit from Santa.

An excellent feature story is in the making with Friday’s [Nov. 22] planned graduation of 13 western Pennsylvania disabled persons who have spent 10 weeks (350 hours) in intensive study learning to be help desk technicians as part of a special Pittsburgh Disability Employment Project for Freedom program operated in conjunction with Slippery Rock University’s Division of Lifelong Learning.

» FLUTISTS TO SURROUND AUDIENCE FOR OPENING OF SRU FLUTE CHOIR, CHAMBER FLUTES CONCERT
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The audience will literally be surrounded by flutists offering an antiphonal piece by 16th-century composer Giovanni Gabrieli when the Slippery Rock University Flute Choir and Chamber Flutes open their fall concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 21 in Swope Recital Hall. A selection using various-size bottles will also be included.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- With unanimous ayes, Kaleidoscope topped Bravo, Encore, Tapestries and Collage to become the new name of the Slippery Rock University Regional Arts Festival. A naming contest was open to the public.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A 25-acre center for outdoor leadership training is taking shape on the campus of Slippery Rock University. ROTC students, outdoor clubs and public groups such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will test their mettle on obstacle courses, rope pulls, climbing walls, emergency drills and more.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Two segments of Russian culture will be covered when Slippery Rock University offers its “Russia’s Golden Traditions” trip next summer highlighting the vitality of 300-year-old St. Petersburg and the traditions of Moscow and its “Golden Ring” cities. The tour is open to the public.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “A Gift in Thanksgiving,” a special program organized by the University’s music department, will offer music and words at the Butler Intermediate High School at 4 p.m. Nov. 24 to benefit Butler area charities and the University’s Music Scholarship Fund.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s final event in its yearlong retrospective of the life of Springdale native Rachel Carson will be a five-performance run of the award-winning “In the Garden of Live Flowers” directed by visiting theater Professor Mirla Criste set for Nov. 20-24.

» SRU ROTC UNIT PRESENTED TWO LIBERTY BRIGADE COMMANDER CERTIFICATES
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program has received two Liberty Brigade Commander’s Certificates, including a $1,000 award, for attaining the third-highest mission percentage within the second brigade.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Jodiann Solito, coordinator of Health Promotion and the Women's Center at Slippery Rock University, was presented the Janet Diggs Award at the recent Mid-Atlantic College Health Association Annual Meeting held in Hunt Valley, Md.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Goo Goo Dolls, once called “America’s best known, unknown band” has been playing across the USA gaining success for the past eight years, and Nov. 10 will play an 8 p.m. concert on the Slippery Rock University campus.
