In the unlikely event that a student is given special permission to complete a thesis, these regulations for binding are to be followed.

Number of Copies

Students submit five copies of each thesis.  These must be bound in the official binding of the university.  Students are to contact Clarion University's Graduate Office by phone at (814) 393-2337 or by email at Jan McClaine to ascertain the current binding fee.  The official copies of the thesis must be originals (i.e., not photocopies), printed at a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch.  All copies to be bound must be submitted unbound, with the signatures of the research chair, the program coordinator and the associate vice president of academic affairs on originals of the face sheet. They must be placed in temporary cover folders.  These approved copies are to be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies along with the binding fee.  Students are responsible for paying the binding fee for five copies of each thesis.

Paper

All official copies of a thesis must be printed on white acid free 8.5" x 11" bond paper containing at least 25% rag, and of at least 20-pound weight.  All printed pages of any single copy must be on paper of identical weight, color, and texture.  Pages containing photographic plates may be of differing weight, but the paper used must be acid free.

Word Processing

The same style and size of font must be used throughout the thesis, with the exception of footnotes, which may be in a smaller font.  Text should be double spaced, and printed in 10 or 12-point font.  The following fonts (or their equivalents) may be used:  Arial, Times Roman, New Century Schoolbook, Helvetica, or Courier.

Margins

The left-hand margin should be 1.5 inches wide to allow for binding.  The three outer margins should be one inch in width.
