Prior to the first clinical day,
students review the clinical experience objectives for the course
and are able to discuss them with you in light of previous
background and personal educational needs.

The students should discuss with you
prior clinical experience and level of clinical development.
Students are asked to provide you with a one-page resume. This may
be helpful to both you and the patients.

The student should be able to
introduce himself/herself to your office staff and patients and
answer questions about the role of the nurse
practitioner.

Students should dress appropriately
and are expected to have a lab coat and name badge.

The student should utilize the
clinical time to the fullest by using any leisure time to review
literature that is in the office library, using references books,
such as the PDR and clinical medicine books.

The student may use clinical time to
learn lab, technical or office management skills when not engaged
in clinical patient care.

Students should be able to describe
experiences that would contribute to their growth as nurse
practitioner students. As long as the clinical goals are met, extra
activities can be planned by you and the student.

Students should be able to identify
their strengths and weaknesses and discuss them with you, working
to improve in the areas of weaknesses.

Preceptors may want to discuss their
preferred style of teaching, communicating, and
learning.

Each student is expected to carry
professional liability insurance, $1,000,000/$3,000,000 minimum, as
a condition of being enrolled in the Clarion, Edinboro, and
Slippery Rock Universities Family Nurse Practitioner
Program.
