In addition to the satisfaction that many clinicians experience as a result of sharing their knowledge with neophytes, the Area Health Education Centers and Clarion and Slippery Rock Universities provide benefits to preceptors.

Community Preceptor Faculty Development Workshop

AHEC (Area Health Education Center) offers Preceptor Development Workshops throughout the year in various locations.  The purpose of these workshops is to assist preceptors to understand the principles of adult learning, evaluate and understand their own precepting style, and to assess student learning needs.  At the completion of the workshops the preceptor will be able to successfully integrate a student into their office practice, to allocate teaching time, and to objectively and subjectively evaluate a student.  Information is presented in case study and short lecture format, and very practical worksheets and handouts are provided.  And, as often the case, the interaction between participants during dinner is invaluable.

Clarion and Slippery Rock Universities assign the title of Courtesy Clinical Faculty to those who precept our students on a regular basis.  The following benefits are associated with that title:

  • Use of library resources on the same basis as provided to other faculty.
  • Access to selected digital databases from the clinician's own computer on the same basis as provided to other faculty.
  • Membership in the fitness centers at the universities at the same cost as provided to other faculty.
  • Access to athletic and cultural benefits sponsored by Clarion and Slippery Rock Universities.
  • Names and addresses of Courtesy Clinical Faculty are published in the MSN Program web page.
