‘NEW
TERRAIN’ TO EXPLORE TALENTS OF SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY
DANCERS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock
University’sDance
Theater will explore “New Terrain” in a
three-performance showcase featuring guest artist Bridget Moore
along with Nora Ambrosio, a member of the university’s dance
faculty, and student choreographers and dancers.
The concert will be offered at 8
p.m. Jan. 30-Feb 1 in Miller Auditorium with the first two
performances including a meet-the-performers session immediately
following. Tickets, $5 for general admission, $3 for seniors and
students with ID, will be available at the door.
Moore is a member of New York
City’s Ron Brown/Evidence Dance Co., best known for its
highly kinetic fusion of West African rhythms with modern dance.
She will premiere a highly athletic ensemble work created for SRU
dancers during her recent residency at the
university.
Dance Professor Ambrosio will present
“Bohemia,” a modern jazz dance featuring music by rock
icon “Queen.” Student choreographers will tread
new terrain exploring an array of styles, musical selections and
themes, including the cool fusion of tap and modern dance, an
unpredictable mix of live dance with video, the menacing threat of
mind games, gender-bending and hip-hop humor.
Student choreographers include
Kristen Bachman and Meredyth Casey, both of Butler, Leanne George
of Forty-Fort, Francie Lloyd of Monongahela, Kristin Mazzulli of
New Kensington, Jennifer McHenry of Langeloth, Brandy Niccolai and
Anita Reda, both of Pittsburgh, Leigh Puntureri of Grove City,
Rosie Trump of New Stanton and Mary Vogt of
Belleville.
“Showcasing the signature
athleticism and diversity of the SRU dance department, the
‘New Terrain’ concert will provide an exciting way to
start 2003,” says Jennifer Keller, assistant dance professor
and production coordinator. She is also a
recentrecipient of Pittsburgh Magazine’s Harry
Schwalb Excellence in the Arts Award.
