Dr. Joyce Penrose
Professor of Nursing

Just imagine teaching a class at three different universities at the same time. Dr. Joyce Penrose, professor of Nursing at Slippery Rock, Clarion and Edinboro Unversities, does just that with the help of high-tech Interactive TV (ITV).
The ITV program began as an innovative way of using resources to provide students with more advanced clinical specialties, says Penrose. The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education clearly values technology because it improves teaching. Other innovative uses of technology include computer-based simulations which enable nursing students to take care of virtual patients and refine their clinical decision-making processes, and web-based courses, which allow students to study at their own pace.
In addition to coordinating the nurse practitioner program, Penrose has worked to develop a second concentration for nurse educators. The State System of Higher Education is helping students develop careers that will give back to the community, says Penrose.
Penrose hold a bachelor's degree in Nursing from Louisiana State University and a master's in Public Health from Tulane University. In addition she earned a Family Primary Care certificate from the University of Virginia and a doctorate in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh.
