Faculty and Administrative Positions

As part of Slippery Rock University's continuing program of positive action to provide an equal employment opportunity to all persons, affirmative hiring procedures for faculty and administrative positions have been formulated and will be distributed to all department chairpersons/supervisors, directors, deans and vice presidents.

The university's purpose in establishing these guidelines is to broaden the applicant pool so that equity groups will be considered for employment along with all other applicants.  In addition, it is hoped that standardization of employment procedures will minimize the opportunity for arbitrary, capricious and/or discriminatory hiring decisions.  Also, the Assistant Director of Diversity and Equal Opportunity meets with search committees to go over procedures and goals.

In order to collect and maintain accurate data on the race and sex of applicants for employment, a Pre-Employment Inquiry is distributed to all applicants and is voluntarily returned to the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity.

Position advertisements are developed by the department/division seeking to hire and are submitted through the dean or immediate supervisor to the area vice president.  The vice president, in consultation with the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity, approves the content of the description and the sources through which the position will be advertised.  Care is taken to assure that the description contains only those requirements which are bona fide occupational qualifications.  These positions are then advertised nationally and/or statewide by the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity.

The university plans to intensify our efforts to recruit more African-American applicants and to maximize our hiring goals by increasing personal contacts with other institutions and individuals who can be resources for recommending African-American persons.
