The Institute for
Learning in Retirement is a non-profit, member-run organization
dedicated to meeting the learning needs and interests of mature
adults (retired or not).
Class offerings change every term.
Topics have included Astronomy, Dancing, Islam and the West,
Financial & Retirement Planning, Health & Wellness, Western
PA History, Drawing, Computer Basics, Music Appreciation, Genealogy
on the Internet, Planning a "Murder", Furniture Repair, Collecting,
Wild Mushrooms, Medicinal & Poisonous Plants, Sailing, Italian
for Travelers, World Religions, a book discussion group and a
current events discussion group. Day trips such as the Strip
District, Rachel Carson's homestead, and an Architectural Tour of
Franklin have also been offered.
The ILR's eight-week-long Fall and
Spring terms are scheduled to accommodate "snowbirds".
Fall term classes: begin in late September,
end before Thanksgiving
Spring term
classes: begin in late March, end in mid-May
