SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University' s women' s
200-yard freestyle relay team set a Morrow Field House pool record
on Saturday to highlight a winning effort against Fairmont State
College (W. Va.).
The 200 relay foursome of senior Vicki
Wilson, sophomore Sherri
Scobie-Henry, junior Kelly
Williams and sophomore Jen
Zuzack had a time of 1:40.97 to win the event and trim
54/100ths of a second off the pool record. The old mark of 1: 41.51
was set by a Norwin High School quartet in 1980.
The record-setting performance paved the way to a 97-84 Rock win in
the women's meet, a 4-0 record in dual meets this season, and was
12th-year Rock head coach Bob Ogoreuc's 100th career win.
Ogoreuc, a native of Indiana, Pa., and graduate of both Indiana
High School and Indiana U. of Pa., now has a 100-53-1 record as The
Rock's coach.
The Rock men (1-3) lost a 96-76 decision to Fairmont State in the
other half of last Saturday's double dual-meet.
In addition to swimming a leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay,
Wilson also won the 50 (24.89) and 100 (54.51) freestyle individual
races.
Williams also won the 200 freestyle (2:02.67), while senior
Jessica Gerhart won the 1000
freestyle (1:38.16).
Scobie-Henry and Williams joined junior Shannon Holt and sophomore Rachel Stultz to win the women's 200 medley
relay (1:58.44).
Junior Tony Mehalic won both
the 50 (22.33) and 100 (49.02) freestyle events and swam the lead
leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay to lead The Rock men's
effort.
Joining Mehalic on the winning relay team were Dalibor Holko, freshman Aaron Chapple and Paul Broskey. The foursome had a winning time
of 1:37.94.
Both The Rock women's and men's teams return to action next
Saturday, Jan. 25, when they will host Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference rival Edinboro in a 1 p.m. meet in the Morrow Field
House pool.
