    PROGRAM  DESCRIPTION

If you are an academically talented high school junior or senior and are looking for a great opportunity to get a jump start on your college career, The Rock's Fast Track Program is for you!  Slippery Rock University's Fast Track Program allows students who have completed their sophomore year, are enrolled in their high school's college preparatory program and rank in the upper third of their class to enroll in college-level courses while still in high school, accepting the same rigors as all other ROCK degree-seeking students.  Students are given the unique opportunity to extend their academic preparation for college beyond the high school level.

Successful completion of the coursework will earn the student regular college credits, which will be applied to the student's Slippery Rock University official transcript once he/she has enrolled after high school graduation.  In addition, all Fast Track credits meet Slippery Rock University's academic curriculum requirements for degree completion.  If the student decides to attend another university, most of the Fast Track credits may be transferred to that institution after enrollment has occurred.

    APPLICATION  REVIEW

Applicants will be judged on a case-by-case basis, with the final determination being made with attention to the student's ability to undertake college-level coursework.

Program eligibility is based on:

1.)  an individual interview with an Admissions Counselor
2.)  the student's official high school transcript, and
3.)  guidance counselor and principal recommendations

PROGRAM  SPECIFICS

Fast Track participants may enroll for a maximum of two courses during the fall, spring, and summer semesters at The Rock.  Students interested in continuing their Fast Track enrollment for subsequent semesters will need to reapply for admission and will register for classes on a space-available basis during the advisement period designated for "special" students.

COURSE  SELECTION

While there are no specific courses assigned to the Fast Track Program, students are urged to consider courses offered by departments such as art, computer science, English, history, modern languages and cultures, music and theatre.  Previous Fast Track students have enjoyed the following undergraduate liberal studies (general education) classes at The Rock:

ART 107:  BASIC STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY
ENGLISH 101:  COLLEGE WRITING 1
COMPUTER SCIENCE 110:  COMPUTER CONCEPTS
MATH 120:  INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA
SOCIOLOGY/ANTHROPOLOGY/SOCIAL WORK 105:  HUMAN DIVERSITY
THEATRE 131:  FUNDAMENTALS OF ACTING

Typical Fast Track coursework will assist the student in meeting university degree requirements for college graduation.  These classes complete liberal studies blocks for any academic major and are transferrable to most universities.  Some classes require previous academic preparation.  Complete course information is available on The Rock's Web site and in the college catalog.

IMPORTANT  PROGRAM DETAILS
