‘EAST MEETS WEST' CONCERT AT SRU
TO BE FUSION OF INDIAN MUSIC, AMERICAN JAZZ
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –A public
concert fusing Indian classical music, including tabla player
Sandip Burman, and American jazz, featuring improvisation, is
planned by Slippery Rock University for 8 p.m. March
20.
The
free, "East Meets Jazz" concert will be held in Swope Music Hall
and is sponsored by SRU's College of Humanities, Fine and
Performing Arts, the university's Office of International
Initiatives and the music department as well as The First National
Bank of Slippery Rock.
In
addition to Burman, a tabla player since childhood, the group
includes his sister Sima Burman, a classical Indian vocalist, and
New York-based jazz artists Dave Pietro on woodwinds and Paul
Bollenback on guitar.
Burman,
who is developing jazz-based music influenced by Indian music, is
Chicago based.
