FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO UNITED NATIONS ALAN
KEYESTO LEAD KEYNOTE WORKSHOP DURING SRU’S
‘UNITY WEEK’
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ambassador Alan Keyes,
the conservative author, fiery public speaker and
two-timeRepublican presidential
hopeful, will headline Slippery Rock University's first "Unity
Week" opening Saturday [March 22].
Keyes
will be on campus to present a 7 p.m. March 27 "Leadership and
Diversity Workshop" in Swope Music Hall. Area residents and
students are invited to hear Keyes bring substance to the important
and timely topics of understanding diversity and uniting campuses
and communities. There is no charge.
Unity
Week is the first major activity by SRU's newly formed Student
Union for Minority Affairs

“Traditional Item Auction”

Send Judah First hosts “Self Expressions”; 6 p.m.,
“Self-Defense” lecture.

Multi-cultural Fashion Show.

March 27: 7 p.m.,
Ambassador Alan Keyes lecture, Swope Music Hall (reception 4 to 6
p.m., University Union.)

Show,” Sheehy Theater of Maltby Center;
8 p.m., student/faculty basketball game, Robert N. Aebersold

Keyes,
ambassador to the United Nations Social and Economic Council during
the Reagan administration, is a leader of the national conservative
movement. He soughtthe Republican presidential nomination in 1996
and 2000 and was twice selected as the Republican nominee to the
U.S. Senate from Maryland. From 1985 to 1987 served as assistant
Secretary of State for International Organizations. He had been
scheduled to speak at SRU last March.
Author
of "Masters of the Dream: The Strength and Betrayal of Black
America" and "Our Future: Reclaiming America's Moral Destiny,"
Keyes has also participated in MSNBC’s "Alan Keyes is Making
Sense" and hosted radio's nationally syndicated "The Alan Keyes
Show: America's Wake Up Call." His doctorate in government affairs
was awarded by Harvard University
Individual
events during the week are co-sponsored by the Office of Student
Affairs, Office of Minority Student Affairs and Cultural Diversity,
the SRU Housing Office, the Association of Residence Hall Students,
Student Government Association, the Union Program Board, Black
Action Society, Latino Student Organization, Wellness House in
Founders Hall, the Office of Admissions, the Robert N. Aebersold
Student Recreation Center and the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and
Allies organization.
