»	'GHOSTS' TO CONREGATE AT SRU'S OLD STONE HOUSE OCT. 24-25 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The ghosts of western Pennsylvania will congregate from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24-25 at the Old Stone House, one of Butler County’s most recognized landmarks, as Slippery Rock University presents its annual “Halloween Ghost Story Tour” program.

»	BUDDHIST MONKS TO EXPLAIN MYSTIQUE OF TIBET DURING 3-DAY SRU VISIT SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The mystique of Tibet will be brought to the Slippery Rock University campus Tuesday when seven Buddhist monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery located in southern India, open a three-day visit offering students and area residents a glimpse of their lives, including monastic dances, music, their religion and public healing and empowerment ceremonies.

Aebersold Student Recreation Center will host a National Wheelchair Basketball Association tournament Saturday and Sunday [Oct. 19-20], including the inaugural game of a new women's team, the Steel City Starz. »	FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF SLIPPERY ROCK AND SRU HONOR SCHOLARS SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Twenty-two high school juniors and 26 seniors have distinguished themselves academically and qualified for $8,000 scholarships to Slippery Rock University, made possible by a $1 million commitment from The First Bank National of Slippery Rock. The program aims to keep talented young people in western Pennsylvania during their college years and beyond.

»	Open House Planned for New Teacher Certification in Environmental Education SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s North Hills Site in Wexford will host an open house 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 12 to spotlight its new teacher certification in environmental education. Education Dean Dr. Jay Hertzog will be on hand to explain the university’s principal certification as well.

»	PENNSYLVANIA’S STATE SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO HONOR FOUR SRU BENEFACTORS WITH EBERLY HONORS SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Four Slippery Rock University supporters – Stanley and Marilyn Kraus, both formerly of Lawrence County, and Dr. Constance Smith and Ramona Smith, both of Butler County, and– have been named by the Fund for the Advancement of the State System of Higher Education, Inc., to receive this year’s Eberly medals, the highest awards presented by Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.

»	SRU GETS $200,000 FEDERAL GRANT TO EDUCATE STUDENTS ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Educating students about violence against women, including dating violence, sexual assault and stalking, will be the focus of education programs made possible by a $199,853 grant to Slippery Rock University from the U.S. Department of Justice.
»	SRU JAZZ ENSEMBLE TO RELEASE NEW CD - ‘BACK TO THE STATES’ AT CONCERT SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Following its successful, two-week spring tour of Europe, the Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble will release a 10-track CD featuring selections presented in Paris, France, and Saluzzo, Lucca and Cesena, Italy, as part of its “Back to the States” concert set for 8 p.m. Oct. 16.

»	SRU’S UPB TO BRING POP BAND ‘GOO GOO DOLLS’ TO CAMPUS FRIDAY SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Goo Goo Dolls, once called “America’s best known, unknown band” has been playing across the USA gaining success for the past eight years, and Nov. 10 will play an 8 p.m. concert on the Slippery Rock University campus.
»	Year of Rachel Carson – SRU PLANS PROGRAM TO ENCOURAGE WOMEN TO CONSIDER SCIENCE CAREERS SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – As part of the on-going “Year of Rachel Carson” in Slippery Rock and at Slippery Rock University, an all-day workshop titled “Rachel Carson as a Role Model: Encouraging Females to Consider Science Careers” will be held at the university Oct. 19. The program is funded, in part, by the National Science Foundation.
