» 900 to Graduate at SRU's 114th Commencement May 10
  SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dr. Clarie Settlemire, Slippery Rock University professor emerita of history and respected expert on Egyptian history, will address more than 900 graduates, including 30 doctor of physical therapy degree recipients, when the university celebrates its 1the universitycelebrates its 114-th commencement at 11 a.m. May 10.

» Koresh Dance Company to Perform Saturday at SRU's Miller Auditorium
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Renowned for its powerful stage presence and high energy, Philadelphia’s Koresh Dance Company will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday [May 3] in Slippery Rock University’s Miller Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door for $5; $3 for students.

Those following the recent discussion and continuing news coverage of the appropriateness of the sculpture on display at Slippery Rock University as part of its Kaleidoscope, a regional arts festival, are advised that the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts will host an open forum on art and censorship at 4 p.m. Monday [April 28] under the title “Id Has T'Ego?"

» SRU Jazz Ensemble Picked to Play at Pittsburgh's Foster's; Campus Concert Set
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 18-member “Big Band” sound of Slippery Rock University’s Jazz Ensemble has been added to the Pittsburgh Jazz Society’s “Sunday Night Party at Fosters” rotation and has been selected to back up lead alto saxophonist Karolina Strassmeyer of the all-female band “Diva” at the upcoming Beaver County Jazz Association’s spring concert in New Brighton.  

» Actress to Impersonate Cabaret Singer Edith Piaf April 30
  SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Elizabeth Hodes will impersonate the legendary French cabaret singer Edith Piaf when she performs “La Vie en Rose” at 8 p.m. Wednesday [April 30] in Slippery Rock University’s Swope Recital Hall. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for general admission; $3 for students.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- An intellectual arsenal of 1,600 demonstrating excellence from the dance stage to the business world and from the classroom to the community will gather in celebration at Slippery Rock University’s April 27 Academic Honors Convocation.

» Cancer Survivor Emelie McFarland Organizing 'Relay for Life' at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Three-time cancer survivor Emelie McFarland, a Slippery Rock University central receiving employee from New Castle, will serve as master of ceremonies for the April 25 opening ceremony kicking off this year’s, 24-hour American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” fund drive being held at the university.

» SRU Theater Students to Try Hand at Improvisation with 'Comedy Tonight'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Comedy Tonight,” Slippery Rock University’s first venture into improvisation and including audience participation, will be presented in four, cabaret-like performances beginning April 23 and give eight students the chance to sharpen their comedy talents as part of the university’s 12-day Kaleidoscope arts festival.

» SRU's Old Stone House to Open Season with Two-Day 'Civil War Living History'
           SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s the Old Stone House will open its summer season with a two-day “Civil War Living History” encampment April 26-27 giving visitors the chance to see life in the Civil War era and the opportunity to talk with re-enactors who have studied the period.

» SRU Students Sweep State Philosophy Conference
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – As he prepared to announce the three winners of a philosophy conference involving 75 students from many of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities, SRU philosophy faculty Dr. Bradley Wilson offered a light-hearted disclaimer.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – A quilting showcase, with 60 quilts on display and activities for children, is one of the special events of “Kaleidoscope,” SRU’s arts festival scheduled for April 22 to May 3.

A quick reminder: Local officials will break ground at noon Wednesday [April 9] officially marking the beginning of turning Slippery Rock Borough into “The Village at Slippery Rock.” The ceremony will be held at Memorial Park (across from Sheetz).

» Struggle for Peace and Justice in Latin America, Iraq Subject of Rev. Roy Bourgeois Lecture
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Rev. Roy Bourgeois, founder of the School of the Americas Watch, a watchdog group opposing U.S. government actions related to Latin America, will lecture on "The Struggle for Peace and Justice from Latin America to Iraq" when he visits Slippery Rock University April 9 as part of his western Pennsylvania lecture tour.

» First Shovels to Turn at Noon Wednesday Marking Beginning of 'Village at Slippery Rock'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Shortly after noon Wednesday [April 9], local officials will break ground officially marking the beginning of turning Slippery Rock Borough into “The Village at Slippery Rock.” The $4.8 million project is designed to transform the downtown in to a business magnet, revitalize community spirit and expand entrepreneurship.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will host a statewide philosophy conference Friday and Saturday, giving 10 Rock students, as well as students from the 13 other state-owned universities, an opportunity to present papers.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Native-American author and speaker Sherman Alexie, heralded by The New Yorker as one of the “top 20 writers for the 21st century,” comes to Slippery Rock University April 22 for a public discussion of his work and life on and off the reservation.
