CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University dropped both
ends of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division
softball doubleheader, 10-0 and 8-6, Wednesday at nationally ranked
California U. of Pa.
The losses snapped a five-game win streak for SRU, which fell to
7-9 overall and 0-2 in PSAC-West action. The Rock hosts Edinboro in
a 3 p.m. PSAC-West doubleheader Thursday.
California is now 9-1 overall, 2-0 in PSAC-West action.
Senior left fielder Erin Kleintop (Palmerton/Palmerton
HS) had five hits in Wednesday's doubleheader, including a
3-for-3 effort in the first game. She was 2-for-4 with a double and
three runs scored in the second game.
The Rock had five hits in the first game and 11 in the second.
Kleintop, junior third baseman Alicia Caranese
(Greensburg/Central Catholic HS) and sophomore second
baseman Jess Gump (Greensburg/Hempfield HS) had two
hits each in the second game.
Sophomore catcher Shannon Bullard (Boyertown/Boyertown HS)
had a pair of RBIs in the second game.
Freshman right-hander Shannon Tagliaferri
(Williamsport/Loyalsock Township HS) suffered the
opening-game pitching loss, while sophomore Candice Nase
(Telford/Souderton HS) was tagged with the second-game
loss.
