DURHAM, N.C. -- Slippery Rock University field event
standout Karyn McCready (Johnstown/Westmont
Hilltop HS) won the women's javelin event to
highlight SRU's effort at the Duke Invitational outdoor track and
field meet.
McCready had a personal-best toss of 153 feet, 10 inches to improve
upon her provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II
national competition.
Ben Steingrabe (jr., Hermitage/West Middlesex
HS) placed fourth in the men's 110-meter hurdles event with
a time of 14.62 that improved his provisional-qualifier status for
the national competition.
SRU's Tony Carr (fr., Turtle Creek/Woodland Hills HS)
was second in the men's javelin with a throw of 183-3, while Rob
Flatt (sr., Butler/Butler HS) placed fifth in the men's
3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:41.99.
Mackenzie Gurcak (jr., Pittsburgh/Baldwin HS)
finished sixth in the women's discus with a toss of 131-6 and was
seventh in the women's shot put with a toss of 42-4.
In developmental heats, SRU's Meredith Hubbard (jr.,
Gibsonia/Pine Richland HS) was fourth in the women's 1500m
with a time of 4:59.41, while Allison Gardner (fr.,
Broadview Heights, OH/Brecksville HS) was seventh in the
women's 400m with a time of 60.40.
The Rock men's and women's teams will host California, Pa., and
Mansfield in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference triangular
meet on Saturday, April 12, at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
