NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University's nationally ranked (29th) women's tennis team improved its record to 13-2 on Monday with a 5-1 win over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Edinboro at the North Butler Racquet Club.

The Rock men dropped to 5-9 with a 5-0 loss to Edinboro.

Leading the way for The Rock women were the sister tandem of Christy and Ashley Michaux (Jeannette/Jeannette HS), who teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match by an 8-0 score before winning their respective singles matches.

Christy Michaux, a senior, won the No. 3 singles match by a 6-2, 6-0 score while Ashley, an SRU freshman, recorded a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing at No. 4 singles.

Junior Jessica Bungo (Indiana/Indiana HS) was also a double winner for The Rock. She and No. 2 doubles partner Ella Reilly (Randwick, Australia/Fahan HS) won an 8-1 decision before Bungo was a 6-4, 6-0 winner in the No. 1 singles match.

In the only other women's match completed, the sophomore tandem of Justine Miller (Roseto/Bangor Area HS) and Leslie Noll (Schaefferstown/Eastern Lebanon County HS) lost an 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.

Men's results included:
No. 1 doubles: Alex Slezak (jr., Pittsburgh/Shaler HS) and Ryan Steeh (fr., Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) lost 8-3.
No. 2 doubles: Will Shaffer (sr., Northumberland/Shikellamy HS) and Ben Eimers (sr., Corry/Corry Area HS) lost 8-5.
No. 3 doubles: Justin Schaeffer (sr., Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin HS) and Rick Moore (so., Lewisburg/Lewisburg HS) lost 8-5.
No. 1 singles: Slezak lost 6-0, 6-2.
No. 4 singles: Schaeffer lost 6-3, 6-3

The Rock women travel to California U. of Pa. for a match on Wednesday before both the men and women travel to West Liberty State (W. Va.) on Thursday.
