SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Slippery Rock University's Ben
Marzullo, a junior designated hitter from Brookville
(Brookville H.S.), was named Monday as the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference-Western Division baseball "Player of the
Week."
Marzullo hit .545 (6-for-11) with five RBIs and five runs scored,
had one double and two home runs in four PSAC-West games last week.
He hit a solo home run and had a double at California, Pa., on
April 2 and smacked a three-run HR on April 5 at Clarion.
Marzullo is hitting .304 and has five doubles and a team-high seven
HRs this spring.
Marzullo was the third Rock player to receive a PSAC weekly honor
in the last two weeks. Senior outfielder Joe Neidrick
and senior right-hander Mike Sikorski were named as the
PSAC-West "Player of the Week" and "Pitcher of the Week,"
respectively, for the week ending March 31.
As a team, SRU is 22-5 overall, 6-0 in PSAC-West action and set a
school record last Saturday when it recorded its 13th consecutive
win. The Rock is ranked 14th in this week's National Collegiate
Baseball Writers of America Division II national poll and is 15th
in the Collegiate Baseball magazine national poll.
The Rock is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday with a 1
p.m. PSAC-West doubleheader at Lock Haven. The games were
originally scheduled for Tuesday, but were postponed due to
inclement weather.
The Rock's scheduled doubleheader Monday with Gannon University was
also postponed due to inclement weather.
