‘KALEIDOSCOPE’ TO INCLUDE
HUGE QUILTING SHOWCASE APRIL 26
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – A quilting showcase, with 60 quilts on display
and activities for children,is one of the special events of
“Kaleidoscope,” SRU’s arts festival scheduled for
April 22 to May 3.
Stitched
by local residents, the quilts will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. April 26, at the Slippey Rock Township Building, located at
the intersection of Branchton and Harmony roads. One quilt, made of
antique feed sacks, will be raffled at the end of the
day.
Children
will be able to examine diagrams of materials and make their own
quilt patches. There will also be book quilts on hand explaining
the quilting process and history of antique quilts on display.
Several of the quilts were made at Fabric Selling Center in
Slippery Rock, while others originated from the New Wilmington
Quilt Guild.

Throughout its 12-day run,
Kaleidoscope visitors will hear speakers, take in a flute or wind
ensemble concert, comedy acts, Civil War re-enactments, or enjoy
children’s activities. Several speakers are nationally known,
including Sherman Alexie, a Native-American writer, dramatist and
poet; Kevin Burke, an Irish-fiddler; and Elizabeth Hodes, a New
York actress/singer/dancer.
