KALEIDOSCOPE ART FESTIVAL EVENT

SRU’S OLD STONE HOUSE TO OPEN SEASON
WITH TWO-DAY ‘CIVIL WAR LIVING HISTORY’
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock
University’s the Old Stone House will open its summer season
with a two-day “Civil War Living History” encampment
April 26-27 giving visitors the chance to see life in the Civil War
era and the opportunity to talk with re-enactors who have studied
the period.
The
free event, part of SRU’s 12-day “Kaleidoscope”
arts festival running April 22-May 3, will include a walking tour
featuring 100 participants stationed at various sites re-enacting
soldier and civilian life during the Civil War era. The event will
run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days and is open to the
public.
The
Old Stone House will be filled with 19th -century
civilians engaged in homefront activities drawing a historical
parallel to modern day soldier’s aid efforts. A “grand
encampment” will be open for inspection and interviews with
some of those seen in the film “God’s and
Generals.”

The Old Stone House, one of Butler County’s most
recognized landmarks, is located in northern Butler County at the
intersections of routes 8, 528, and 173, 12 miles north of
Butler.
