A KALEIDOSCOPE ARTS FESTIVAL EVENT
--
ACTRESS TO IMPERSONATE CABARET SINGER EDITH
PIAF ON APRIL 30
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Elizabeth Hodes will impersonate the legendary
French cabaret singer Edith Piaf when she performs “La Vie en
Rose” at 8 p.m. Wednesday [April 30] in Slippery Rock
University’s Swope Recital Hall. Tickets, available at the
door, are $5 for general admission; $3 for students.
Through
an excellent script and fine acting, Hodes' show illuminates the
life of one of cabaret's seminal personalities, says Dr. Diana
Dreyer, assistant to the dean of humanities at SRU.
Known
as the “Little Sparrow” and “Sacred
Monster,” Piaf was reared by her Gypsy mother. Her street
life in Paris, successes and tragedies in love, loss of a child and
music are interpreted by Hodes, who includes a version of
Piaf’s signature song, “Non, je ne Regrette
Rien.”
According
to published reviews, Hodes’s show is “a
well-drawn portrait of a lonely woman, searching for love but with
a great capacity for life and fun.”
