ROCK HARDBALLERS’ STREAK STOPPED AT 14
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The nationally ranked Slippery Rock
University baseball team split a doubleheader with Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Lock Haven,
winning the first game 12-1 to extend its winning streak to 14
games before falling in the second game 4-1.
The
Rock, ranked 14th in this week’s National
Collegiate Baseball Writers of America national poll and 15th in
the Collegiate Baseball magazine poll, improved its record to 23-6
overall, 7-1 in PSAC-West action.
Lock
Haven (10-15, 1-5) snapped a five-game losing streak Thursday.
Senior
Mike Sikorski (White Oak/McKeesport HS) improved his
record to 5-1 as he pitched another brilliant game. Sikorski
scattered four hits, struck out eight and walked one en route to
his fourth complete game of the season. Sikorski allowed his
only run in the first inning on three hits and a passed ball, but
settled down to blank the Bald Eagles in the final six innings.
In
the first game of the doubleheader, The Rock were led at the plate
by juniors Joe Pascarella (c, New Castle/Shenango HS)
and Nathan Statzer (ss, Harmony/Seneca Valley HS) and
sophomore left fielder Matt Kozusko
(Latrobe/Latrobe).
Pascarella
hammered two homers and had a sacrifice fly to finish the game with
five RBIs, while Statzer had two hits and three RBIs. Kozusko went
4-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run, four runs scored and
two RBIs.
Lock Haven won the
second game with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth
inning.
The
Rock will be back in action on Friday as it hosts Pitt-Johnstown in
a 4 p.m. twinbill at Jack Critchfield Park.
