GUMP, REBHOLZ PACE ROCK SOFTBALL TO TWINBILL SPLIT
EDINBORO, Pa.
– Junior second baseman Jesse Gump
(Greensburg/Hempfield HS) and sophomore designated
hitter Beth Rebholz (Pittsburgh/Shaler HS) had key
hits in the second game Wednesday to lead Slippery Rock University
to a 5-1 win over hosting Edinboro University in Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference-Western Division softball action.
Edinboro won the
first game, 3-1.
The second-game
win snapped an eight-game losing streak for The Rock and improved
SRU’s record to 9-19 overall, 2-10 in PSAC-West action.
Gump had a leadoff
double and scored on Rebholz’s RBI double to tie the score at
1-1 in the top of the seventh inning to send Wednesday’s
second game into extra innings.
Gump then put The
Rock ahead with an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning. She
later scored on Rebholz’s second RBI double of the game.
Nikki Cothran
(Kansas City, Mo./Sumner Academy) was the winning
pitcher and improved her record to 3-5.
Senior left
fielder Erin Kleintop (Palmerton/Palmerton HS) hit a
solo home run in the third inning to account for SRU’s only
run in the first game.
Sophomore
right-hander Candice Nase (Telford/Soudertown HS) was
tagged with the loss and fell to 3-5.
The Rock returns
to action on Thursday when it travels to Carnegie Mellon
University.
SRU hosts
California U. of Pa. in a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
