ROCK HARDBALLERS SWEEP PAIR FROM WEST LIBERTY STATE
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University swept a non-conference
baseball doubleheader from visiting West Liberty State (W. Va.) on
Monday, winning the first game 3-0 and taking the nightcap 15-3 at
Jack Critchfield Park.
The
Rock is now 33-8 on the year and has won six straight games and 25
of 29 games since returning from its spring trip to Florida in
early March.
West Liberty State
fell to 17-21 with the losses.
Sophomore
right-hander Rocky D’Angelo (Shaler/Shaler HS)
tossed a one-hit shutout in Monday’s opening game.
D’Angelo (4-1) struck out four and walked one in recording
his fourth complete game of the season.
Senior second
baseman Alan Reichl (Pittsburgh/Montour HS) was
2-for-4 with an RBI, while junior third baseman Chase Rowe
(Saxonburg/Knoch HS) and sophomore left fielder Matt
Kozusko (Latrobe/Greater Latrobe HS) had an RBI single
each.
The Rock scored
three runs in the bottom of the second inning to erase a 2-0 lead
in the second game and then added eight tallies in the fourth, four
in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Sophomore first
baseman Aaron Levonick (Osceola Mills/Phillipsburg-Osceola
HS) led The Rock’s Game 2 effort with a two-run
double, a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly in four trips to the
plate.
Junior designated
hitter Billy Wolfe (Franklin/Franklin HS) was 2-for-3
with four RBIs for The Rock, while senior center fielder Joe
Neidrick (Osceola Mills/Phillipsburg-Osceola HS) was
3-for-5 with one RBI.
Sophomore
right-hander Nick Armstrong (Murraysville/Franklin Regional
HS) was the Game 2 winning pitcher. He allowed three runs
(one earned) on seven hits, struck out eight and walked three in
six innings. Senior right-hander Kevin Dvorchak
(Smock/Uniontown HS) pitched the final inning.
The Rock returns
to action on Wednesday when it will host Clarion University in a 5
p.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division
doubleheader at Jack Critchfield Park.
SRU
travels to Indiana U. of Pa. for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday
before hosting Bloomfield College of New Jersey in a 1 p.m.
