ROCK SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO INDIANA, PA

INDIANA, Pa. – Slippery Rock University traveled to Indiana, Pa. on Saturday afternoon and dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division softball games in head coach Joanne Leight’s last two games by scores of 8-0 and 9-1.

The losses put SRU’s overall record at 10-26 and its PSAC-West mark at 3-17 to close the season.

The first game saw senior left fielder Erin Kleintop (Palmerton/Palmerton HS) go 2-for-2, but she received little help as the team totaled only four hits.  Sophomore right-hander Candice Nase (Telford/Souderton HS) took the loss and dropped to 3-9 on the season.

In the second game, freshman center fielder Shannon Tagliaferri (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp. HS) went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.  Junior shortstop Lori Slozat (Meadville/Meadville HS) also went 2-for-3 in the game.  Both recorded three hits on the afternoon.  Junior right-hander Nikki Cothran (Kansas City, MO/Sumner Academy) took the loss to drop to 4-8 on the season.

These games were the final ones for Rock head coach Joanne Leight, who is stepping down at the end of the season to devote her attention to completing her doctorate degree at Duquesne University and serving as an assistant professor of physical education.

Leight finished her SRU career with an 84-178 record in seven seasons and owns a 259-257 career record in 16 seasons as a collegiate head coach.
