ROCK SOFTBALL DROPS TWO TO INDIANA, PA
INDIANA, Pa. – Slippery Rock University traveled to
Indiana, Pa. on Saturday afternoon and dropped a pair of
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division softball
games in head coach Joanne Leight’s last two games by
scores of 8-0 and 9-1.
The
losses put SRU’s overall record at 10-26 and its PSAC-West
mark at 3-17 to close the season.
The
first game saw senior left fielder Erin Kleintop
(Palmerton/Palmerton HS) go 2-for-2, but she received
little help as the team totaled only four hits. Sophomore
right-hander Candice Nase (Telford/Souderton HS) took
the loss and dropped to 3-9 on the season.
In
the second game, freshman center fielder Shannon Tagliaferri
(Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp. HS) went 2-for-3 with a run
batted in. Junior shortstop Lori Slozat
(Meadville/Meadville HS) also went 2-for-3 in the
game. Both recorded three hits on the afternoon. Junior
right-hander Nikki Cothran (Kansas City, MO/Sumner
Academy) took the loss to drop to 4-8 on the
season.
These
games were the final ones for Rock head coach Joanne
Leight, who is stepping down at the end of the season to
devote her attention to completing her doctorate degree at Duquesne
University and serving as an assistant professor of physical
education.
Leight
finished her SRU career with an 84-178 record in seven seasons and
owns a 259-257 career record in 16 seasons as a collegiate head
coach.
