‘LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!’ IS
THEME FOR WEEKLONG THEATER CAMPAT SLIPPERY ROCK
UNIVERSITY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Budding actors, directors, playwrights
and designers will have the chance to hone their talents when
Slippery Rock University offers “Lights, Camera,
Action!” a weeklong summer camp for children ages 7 to 14
this summer.
“The
Play’s The Thing: An Introduction to the Magic of the
Theater!” is set for July 7-11 and will offer mini-courses in
acting, set and light design, stage movement, dance and combat, and
will include a backstage visit to a Pittsburgh theater. The week
culminates with a public performance by the students showing off
their newly learned talents.
“This
is an outstanding program for children interested in acting and
other activities involving theater. It is also a good way to help
children build self-awareness and self-esteem,” says Richard
Comings, head of SRU’s Office of Continuing Education, which
created the weeklong day camp. “Our award-winning theater
faculty teach many of the classes exposing students to just about
every phase of theater production.”
Sessions
will cover such topics as rehearsal techniques, history of fashion,
costume design, make-up design, tool safety, basic set
construction, dance techniques, hanging lights and teamwork, among
others.
Tuition
for the weeklong camp is $200 ($190 for those registering by June
23; $185 for those registering early with multiple children from
the same family). The camp includes a supervised lunch. The
registration deadline is June 30.
