In further promotion and education of "where does your food come from?" MS3 student Heather House created a project she called "Cows on the Quad". Working with partnerships with the College of Health, Environment and Science, Dr. Dan Dziubek and Environmental Education classes, The Insitute for Community Service-Learning and NonProfit Leadership, Butler County 4-H and Butler and Lawrence County Cooperative Extension, this was an endeavor to bring elementary aged children to Slippery Rock to have a "real" farm experience. Various outside displays were set up to show dairy cows, chickens, sheep and goats. This was in attempt to educate children on where their food comes from and make those important connections with thier environment. Several other educational displays were also available for kids to learn how to milk a cow, meet the local dairy princess, learn more about nutriention and overall have a day of fun "down on the farm". The Macoskey Center staff along with other university student volunteers helped with the overall successful coordination of the day. Children and teachers learned much from their experiences.
