The Protection Connection

Sexually Transmitted
Infections (STI) affect more than 13 million men and women in the
United States each year. Nearly two thirds of these cases occur in
people younger than 25 years of age (National Institute of Allergy
and Infectious Diseases, 2003). It is important that students
receive accurate information about STIs as well as how to protect
themselves from contracting an infection.
The purpose of the Protection
Connection is to provide safer sex supplies to students at a very
low cost. Also, as part of the H.O.P.E. Peer Education
program, we are able to provide students with accurate information
regarding the transmission and prevention of Sexually Transmitted
Infections.
A large variety of condoms can be
purchased at the Protection Connection, including Durex,
Lifestyles, and Trustex brands. Most condoms are 4 / $1.00. In
addition, specialty condoms, such as glow-in-the-dark, are
available. The Protection Connection also has lubricant,
dental dams, and female condoms available for purchase.
Hours of operation are from 9:00
a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m. on Fridays. A condom vending machine is available for
student use after hours. The Protection Connection is located
in the Student Health Center.
