Executive Leadership Program
Phone: 724-738-1601

Program Overview:

What does it take to be an effective leader?  As you navigate a more rugged and complex business terrain, how do you rapidly collect and analyze information to make decisions and take action?  How do you keep your staff professionals moving forward together in your organization?  Slippery Rock University combines rigorous outdoor activities with classroom sessions to help leaders think strategically, communicate effectively, and act decisively.  Teams of executives are faced with real challenges as they negotiate the sixteen leadership challenges on Slippery Rock’s Leadership Reaction Course (LRC). They learn about their own approaches to problems and then how solving them is the key objective.   Team Dynamics is fundamental in tackling the different obstacles that the staff organization is presented.

The SRU Approach:

The Team Building, Reaction Course, and Challenge Tower programs as well as the Mobile Training were carefully designed with both the goals of the individual and groups in mind. Our program goals are achieved by implementing a planned sequence of challenges; the goals of each challenge building off of the previous one. All of our activities "Challenge by Choice" -- meaning that participants are encouraged to go beyond their normal comfort zones, but each participant determines their level of involvement.

At the conclusion of every challenge, an after-action review (AAR) is conducted. It is a professional discussion of an event, focused on performance standards, that enables individuals to discover for themselves what happened, why it happened and how to sustain strengths and improve on weaknesses. It is a tool leaders and organizations can use to get maximum benefit from every mission or task. AAR's are an ongoing discipline aimed squarely at driving a persistent improvement in skilled execution, knowledge and results.
