This is a very simple activity which helps you to gauge students’ expectations and needs.  Take a moment at the beginning of class to ask students their expectations of the presentation/activity/experience.  Using an index card for their responses have students write freely a response to the following query:

What do you expect to learn from today’s presentation/activity/experience?
