This is a very simple activity
which helps you to gauge students’
expectations and needs. Take a moment at the beginning
of class to ask students their expectations of the
presentation/activity/experience. Using an index card
for their responses have students write freely a response to the
following query:

What do you expect to learn from today’s presentation/activity/experience?

Collect the cards. This is a means by which you can gauge
student’s expectations. A quick review (and sharing)
will allow you to confirm that their expectations meet with the
