MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Senior outside hitter Andi Whitican
(Springboro, OH/Springboro HS) had 23 kills, nine
service aces and eight blocks in three matches last weekend to earn
all-tournament honors and lead Slippery Rock University to a pair
of wins in the Dutch Country Spiketacular volleyball event hosted
by Millersville University.
The all-tournament honor was the second received by Whitican in as
many tournaments this fall. She was also honored for her
performance in the season-opening Catawba (N.C.) Invitational,
which was held Aug. 29-30.
In Millersville, The Rock lost its opening match in the event to
Dowling College of New York (30-17, 30-25, 30-22) before beating
Glenville State College of West Virginia (30-15, 30-21, 30-19) and
Molloy College of New York (30-15, 30-18, 30-18).
The Rock takes a 5-2 record as it prepares to open Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference-Western Division action Tuesday night at
California U. of Pa.
Senior outside hitter Jen Howser (Grafton, OH/Elyria
HS) had 38 kills, four service aces and 32 digs for The
Rock, while sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Weber
(Pittsburgh/Fox Chapel HS) added 15 kills in two
matches.
Senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Rae El Johnson
(Port Allegany/Port Allegany HS) had 23 digs in three
matches, freshman Toni Reiber (Grove City/Grove City
HS) added 20 digs in three matches, junior defensive
specialist/setter Cori Harte (East Rochester, NH/Spaulding
HS) recorded 39 assists and seven service aces and freshman
setter Sara Kirsch (Northern Cambria/Northern Cambria
HS) had 43 assists and nine kills.
The Rock opens its home schedule at 2 p.m. Saturday when it hosts
PSAC-West rival Edinboro University in Morrow Field House.
