Judy is an Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Nursing. She has her PhD from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, her MSN and BSN from the University of Pittsburgh, and her diploma from Presbyterian University Hospital School of Nursing. Her teaching assignment since she joined the SRU faculty full time is primarily in the RN-BSN completion program with such courses as Nursing Research, Managed Care and Financial Management for the Nursing Case Manager. She is involved on campus as a member of the IRB, the University Assessment Committee, and the CHES Research Committee.

Her research focus is related to the implementation and evaluation of Evidence-Based Decision Making in clinical settings for staff, Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) and managers. She assists hospitals that are seeking Magnet status with implementing and evaluating Evidence-Based Practice.

Her work in Evidence-Based Decision Making has been recognized recently:

The purpose of this collaborative is to close the gap between management research and the ways practitioners make managerial and organizational decisions and educators teach organizational behavior, theory, strategy and human resources management.

·   In 2006 her co-authored chapter in Hamric, Spross & Hanson was used as a guide for the development of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Essential of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice, specifically Essential #3: Clinical Scholarship and analytical Methods for Evidence-Based Practice.

·   In 2006 she was asked to be a sentinel reader for McMaster Online Rating of Evidence (MORE) for Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN).
