SRU PLANS WIND ENSEMBLE AND JAZZ COMBOS
CONCERTS FOR WEEK OF NOV. 10
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Slippery Rock University
Symphonic Wind Ensemble will present its “Fall Concert”
Wednesday [Nov. 12] in preparation for the December recording of
its first CD, and the SRU Jazz Combos will follow up on Thursday
with a concert featuring their own jazz
arrangements.
The
concerts are at 8 p.m. in Swope Music Hall. SRU students are
admitted free; $3 general public.
The
wind ensemble, under the direction of Stephen Hawk, associate
professor of music, will offer "Watchman, Tell Us of The Night," by
Mark Camphouse, "Divertimento for Winds and Percussion," by Roger
Cichy, with guest harpist Deborah Vallin, and Eric Whitacre's,
"October."
The
jazz combos are directed by Terry Steele, associate professor of
music. Their works will include "All of Me,” "Four,"
"Straight, No Chaser," "Red Clay," "Well, You Needn't," "Afro Blue"
and "Recordame."
"We
have prepared a very diverse program with some interesting
twists," says Steele.
Members
of the jazz combos are Courtney Geary, trumpet; Sam Eisenreich,
sax; Matt Altdorfer, trombone; Chuck Lane, piano; Mike Fioriglio,
guitar; Ross Chilcott, bass; Nicole Steele, drums; and Dave Sendef,
trumpet. The second combo includes, Pat Schirf, sax; Ross Chilcott,
trombone; Duane Davis, guitar, Jared Negley, bass and Claude
Flowers, drums.
