The National Slavic Honorary Dobro
Slovo
Dobro Slovo is the National Slavic
Honorary. To become members students must complete four
semesters of Russian language courses and one semester of any
advanced course related to Russian civilization. This latter course
may be literature or civilization, but must be completed in a
Russian academic department. To be eligible students must
complete a 3.5 average in these courses. They also are required to
have an overall 3.0 average.
The National Level
(from http://slavic.ohio-state.edu/dobroslo.htm)
Each year the local chapters of
Dobro Slovo induct new members. After paying the national dues
($15) and any applicable local chapter dues (at OSU, $10 for
faculty, $5 for students annually), these members are presented
with a certificate, membership card, and a Dobro Slovo key (lapel
pin). Once inducted one is a member for life, with no further
obligations to the national committee; all further contact members
have is usually with a local chapter. In this sense, Dobro Slovo is
like many national honor societies whose purpose is to recognize
and promote academic achievement.
