| Heritage speakers shall be given a comprehensive written and oral exam to verify grammatical competence and oral fluency. If the above test reveals weakness in grammar/and oral communication skills, then the student shall follow the non-native speaker program. If the student is weak in grammar only, the student will take 300 (in lieu of elective). If the student is weak in oral communication only (unlikely), the student will be placed in appropriate level communication course. |
| NOTE: We anticipate poor performance only from a few heritage language learners whose primary language is English, but who may have learned Spanish somewhat at home while being raised by Hispanic parents in the U.S. Students who successfully complete the above exam shall follow the program below. |
