Students should fill out the Student Prize Selection Forms for their language.
Teachers should collect these forms and bring them to SRU on Competition Day.
Eligibility for Awards
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures is pleased to invite you and your students to participate in our 23rd annual World Languages Competition. The competition will be held on Tuesday, February 19,2008. Classes at the university are not in session because of Faculty Professional Development Day. This gives us access to classrooms and allows our language students to participate as well. The deadline for registration is January 15, 2008. We will accept registrations on a first-come, first-served basis until we reach capacity. Payment must reach us by February 19th, the day of the competition.
The registration desk opens at 8:30. The first test begins at 9:30. The competition ends at 1:00 p.m. There are activities available for students to do while they are not taking a test. We also will be offering a methodology workshop for teachers attending. The workshop will include interesting and practical topics for the foreign language classroom. You will receive a certificate which can be used for Act 48 credit for participation in the workshop.
The new state guidelines and the national standards document for world languages should have a significant impact on world languages teaching in the years to come. This should be an exciting time for world language teachers. We look forward to seeing you and your students on February 19th.
