University Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit
Leadership’s expansion of its “Project Christmas
Elf” into Lawrence County will provide hundreds of Lawrence
and Butler county children with a memorable
Christmas.A “Gather the Gifts” reception
will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday in SRU’s
Russell Wright Alumni House offering opportunities for feature
photos – including a number of bicycles that will be
distributed to youngsters from the two counties.
The program,
st arted in 1989, allows university offices, faculty, staff,
students and organizations, as well as community individuals,
groups, schools and others to “adopt” a needy child by
agreeing to fulfill the child’s Christmas wish list. Names
are provided by Salvation Army offices in Butler and New Castle.
Since its inception, the program has provided more than 2,000
children with a brighter holiday.
The gift packages
will be sent to the appropriate Salvation Army office following
Thursday’s collection reception.
