EDITOR’S ADVISORY                              12-3-03

The Slippery Rock University Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership’s expansion of its “Project Christmas Elf” into Lawrence County will provide hundreds of Lawrence and Butler county children with a memorable Christmas.A “Gather the Gifts” reception will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday in SRU’s Russell Wright Alumni House offering opportunities for feature photos – including a number of bicycles that will be distributed to youngsters from the two counties.

The program, st  arted in 1989, allows university offices, faculty, staff, students and organizations, as well as community individuals, groups, schools and others to “adopt” a needy child by agreeing to fulfill the child’s Christmas wish list. Names are provided by Salvation Army offices in Butler and New Castle. Since its inception, the program has provided more than 2,000 children with a brighter holiday.

The gift packages will be sent to the appropriate Salvation Army office following Thursday’s collection reception.

Media  planning to send a reporter/photographer are asked to call 724-738-2199.
