TLTR  MEETING SUMMARY

December 11, 2003

 

I.    Old Business

A.    Report from Information Technology: Dean Lindey

1.    Phone system information gathering is underway

2.    Email Spam Filter - Henry Maguziak is creating an explanatory document that will be presented to deans and directors soon.  General distribution will follow.  Any problems should be reported to Help Desk.

3.    Investigation of XP migration

4.    Introduce Brett Davis from Apple Computer, Inc.  He is our Apple Higher Education representative located in Pittsburgh.

B.    Report from PTA:  Chrissy Le Simmers (PTA report was emailed)

II.    New Business

A.    Gretchen Schumacher demonstrated an archived webcast lecture that is a streaming video coordinated and synchronized with a Power Point presentation.  Students comments of video and PowerPoint were overwhelmingly positive.  Created with MS Producer that runs with PowerPoint.  Viewers can use Windows 2000 and ME.  This is a great enhancement to courses delivered via Blackboard.

B.    Professional Development Committee and TLTR are planning the 2004 Spring Professional Development Day.  Thanks to all who have offered to deliver sessions.  Many interesting sessions will be offered throughout the day.

C.    Special Thanks to the GA Suk Ja Lee for her years of service to the TLTR.

D.    Raffle prizes were distributed to many lucky winners

III.    Program: 2nd Annual Gadget Show

A.    Norm Swiger - Operations Manager at Staples in Butler, Shawn Myers - SRU Senior in Computer Science

B.    Gadgets:

1.    HP 2510 - All in one printer.  Wireless. Has a LCD screen for viewing pictures on digital cards inserted in slot.  $399.

2.    HP 4670 - Very thin profile to take up less space.  Can scan slides, flat documents, etc.  $199.

3.    USonic Pocket PC PDA - with built-in camera and MP3 player.  $199

4.    Palm Tungsten T3 - Many screen display options, including rotation for pictures, PPT or Word documents.  Can recognize handwriting and keeps an address book.

5.    Digital Cameras - Mega Pixels and better zoom lens.

a.    Fugi - 6x zoom - 3.2 mega pixel - wider lens for low light.  $299.

b.    Kodak - Easy share - 10x zoom - 4 mega pixels - wider lens for low light - short videos with sound. $499.

6.    HP Printer 245 - for printing digital pictures from memory cards.  Has scren to view, rotate and crop pictures.  Prints 4x6 pictures with 4800x1200 resolution.  $199.
