$1,000 SCHOLARSHIPS AND $300 AWARD OFFERED
STUDENTS WHO JOIN STOP-SMOKING CAMPAIGN
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. -- Scholarships of $1,000 and a $300 award await the
Slippery Rock University students who do the most to help other
students "kick butt."
The
Pennsylvania Department of Health is offering $1,000 renewable
scholarships for students who join the state's “Students
Working Against Tobacco” campaign for 2004-2005. Students
plan several stop-smoking activities on campus during the school
year.
The
department sponsors the tobacco prevention program at the
Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education
universities.
SRU's College of Health, Environment
and Science has also posted a $300 award for developing the best
campaign logo, said SRU’s Dr. Jane Fulton, college dean
and coordinator of SRU’s Students Working Against Tobacco
efforts. She will enter the winning SRU campus logo into the state
competition, which carries an additional $100 award.
Scholarship
applications are available at 325 Physical Therapy Building. Logos
may be dropped at the same location by March 1. Telephone:
724-738-4862.
New Castle
event coming up
SRU’s
chapter of Students Working Against Tobacco will participate
in an overnight with New Castle High School students Feb. 20-21 at
SRU’s Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center. SRU
students have organized anti-smoking activities for 100 to 125
students, Fulton says. The event is called "Busted Youth
Lock-in."
"Kick
Ash" will follow March 31 on the SRU campus and include several
activities.
Earlier
this year SRU students participated in the American Cancer
Society’s annual Great American Smokeout.
