Officials from Youngstown
State University, including President David C. Sweet, will visit
Slippery Rock University Monday [March 1] to sign an education
articulation agreement that will open opportunities to SRU students
to study all phases of engineering at YSU.
The five-year agreement
creates what is commonly called a “3+2 Program,” with
students taking pre-requisite courses at SRU for their first three
years, then transferring to YSU to complete their engineering
studies. The program will be open to SRU students majoring in
physics. Following successful completion of their first year at
YSU, Slippery Rock University will award the student a bachelor of
arts degree in physics and following completion of their second
year of studies at YSU, Youngstown State University will award the
student an engineering degree.
The
formal signing ceremony, involving YSU President Sweet and SRU
Interim President Robert Smith will afford interviews and an
excellent photo opportunity at 1:15 p.m. Monday in the
President’s Conference Room of Old Main on the SRU
campus.
(A tour of SRU’s Physical
Therapy Building and a look at Slippery Rock’s downtown
development project are slated to follow.)
Media planning to staff the
signing are asked to call 724-738-2199.
