» EDITOR'S ADVISORY: Seeds of Peace Camp Director Available for Interviews
A quick reminder that with the unending search for Middle East peace dominating the news, your readers/listeners/viewers may be interested in hearing from Timothy P. Wilson, a 1962 Slippery Rock University graduate and now camp director for the nationally spotlighted Seeds of Peace program. Mr. Wilson will be on the SRU campus Friday [April 3] in preparation for his 2 p.m. Sunday address at the university’s annual Academic Honors Convocation set for in Morrow Field House.

» Weekend Concerts at SRU Feature Voice, Violin, Wind Ensemble
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Voice majors at Slippery Rock University and guest pianists Jennifer Plumley and Kelly Hiser will perform “Opera Scenes and Arias” at 8 p.m. Saturday [April 3] followed by graduating senior Sarah J. Lipner’s “My Final Hoorah: A Senior Violin Recital” at 4 p.m. Sunday and an 8 p.m. Sunday performance by the SRU Wind Ensemble.

 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The popular hip-hop band Ludacris, and a special guest, will highlight “Hip-Hop Week” at Slippery Rock University as student organizations examine how the current fad is affecting poetry, music and today’s campus culture April 17-26.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University Interim President Robert Smith saluted 11 management employees for various years of service to the University, including 40 years of service by Francis Hensler, software support specialist in administrative information systems and technologies, at a recent breakfast meeting.

» SRU's Bridge Project Group to Observe Sexual Assault Awareness Month
  SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – April is being observed nationally as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Bridge Project at SRU has organized a series of events to help the campus community Speak Out Against Sexual Violence. The group’s goal is to encourage the entire university community to learn about sexual violence, how to help prevent it and how to help survivors heal.

» SRU Dancer to Perform at Washington, D.C.'s, Kennedy Center
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Francie Lloyd, a senior dance major at Slippery Rock University, was recently selected to perform her solo choreography for the American College Dance Festival at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., June 1-3.

» SRU to Salute Scholars, Faculty at Academic Honors Convocation: Seeds of Peace Leader to Speak
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Timothy P. Wilson, a Slippery Rock University graduate now vice president and camp director for the nationally recognized Seeds of Peace organization working works to bring peace in the Middle East will speak when the university salutes more than 1,800 students for their outstanding academic efforts at the annual Academic Honors Convocation.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s annual Academic Honors Convocation, set for 2 p.m. April 4 in Morrow Field House, will salute the outstanding academic work of more than 1,800 students and include the annual presentation of the President’s Awards for Excellence.

A quick reminder that S enior Vice President and Director of Research for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Dr. Mark Sniderman will be the keynote speaker at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday [March 24] as Slippery Rock University’s College of Business, Information and Social Sciences hosts its annual “School of Business Week.”

» Washington, D.C.-based, All-Male Dance Troupe Coming to SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University and its Fredrick Douglas Institute will present the Washington, D.C.-based,  Edgeworks Dance Theater’s performance of “Fearless Measures” at 6 p.m. Saturday [March 27] in Miller Auditorium.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Forty-four students from diverse academic fields are presenting at SRU’s Symposium for Research and Scholarship, a hallmark event that highlights the outstanding academic accomplishments of undergraduate and graduate students. The symposium is Thursday and Friday [March 25-26.]

» SRU Trustees Review Projections for Continued Enrollment Improvement: New Look for Campus
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.--- Slippery Rock University’s Council of Trustees reviewed projections for continued enrollment growth in both quantity and quality of its student body at today’s quarterly meeting. In his report to the council, Interim President Robert Smith also told the council that several projects to be completed in the summer will give the campus a “fresh and exciting look.”

» SRU to Host Sports Clinic for Visually Impaired March 27
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University and the university’s Adapted Physical Activity Council on March 27 will host a one-day sports clinic for the visually impaired. Participants ages 8 to 18 will learn the fundamentals of taekwondo, gymnastics, weight lifting, aerobics, dance and goalball, played like soccer with a ball with a bell inside.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  S enior Vice President and Director of Research for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Dr. Mark Sniderman will be the keynote speaker when Slippery Rock University’s College of Business, Information and Social Sciences hosts its annual “School of Business Week” and “Communication Week” programs open to the campus and community beginning Monday [March 22].

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s  Student Union for Minority Affairs organization will host its second annual Unity Week opening Saturday [March 20] as a program designed to promote campus diversity and unity among students, faculty staff and the community.

» SRU School of Business Students Qualify for American Express National Finals
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The three-member Slippery Rock University School of Business American Express Planning Invitational team has qualified for the national finals to be held at the company’s Minneapolis headquarters April 21-24.

» Annual 'Prism' Concert Set for Sunday
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s annual Prism concert, presented by the music department, will again spotlight an array of musical styles, including jazz, percussion, flutes, brass and vocal groups, including a barbershop quartet.

» 'Good Food Lunch' to Support Local, Sustainable Organic Agriculture
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa -- Local agriculture, organic cuisine and sustainable food production will be the focus of the Good Food Lunch at Slippery Rock University on Thursday, March 25.   The third annual lunch will take place 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Boozel Dining Hall.  All university affiliates, students and community residents are invited.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The national Order of Omega, based in Arlington, Texas, has presented Slippery Rock University resort-tourism management major Joseph Hall of Williamsport its $500 National Order of Omega Scholarship in recognition of his outstanding leadership.

» SRU Students to Use Grant to Evaluate Cafeteria Waste for Recycling Project
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Graduate environmental science students at Slippery Rock University will dig through waste generated at an on-campus food court to determine if trash generated there can be turned into usable compost as part of a newly approved $36,623 grant from Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Grant Program.

» SRU to Mark 'Faces of Hispanic World' March 19-26
  SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University will offer a week-long exhibition of portrait photography under the theme "Faces of the Hispanic World" March 19-26 as part of its second annual Hispanic Cultures Week. The photos illustrate the diversity of the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world through music, literature, cinema, art, dance and food while highlighting activities that showcase the Hispanic culture.

» SRU Track Runner Slated for Friday's 'Price is Right'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kim Smith, a freshman sprinter on the Slippery Rock University women’s track and field team, is scheduled to be one of the contestants on “The Price Is Right” television game show airing Friday, March 12 on CBS-TV.

» Free Seminars for Business Owners Part of SRU School of Business Week
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s annual “School of Business Week,” designed to showcase the  university’s business programs, has been expanded to offer a series of free seminars open to regional business owners and entrepreneurs. The sessions will offer tips on fraud protection, using e-commerce, writing business plans and provide ideas for financing small business operations.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – As a lawyer, Abraham Lincoln often used humor to make a point, even poking fun at himself.  Duquesne School of Law Professor Mark Yochum comes to Slippery Rock University March 25 to give a public lecture “The Bonehead Play” that promises to be as entertaining as informative.

» Rock Group Further Down to Hold Benefit Concert at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Pittsburgh rock group Further Down will perform a concert March 31 at Slippery Rock University with proceeds benefiting  Kaleidoscope, the university’s arts festival April 19-28. The group does covers by Bon Jovi, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and other groups.

» SRU Students Prepare for International Study Over Spring Break
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Is there any place better to oceanography than the Bahamas? Modern art, in Paris? Spanish civilization in Spain? Students at Slippery Rock University don’t think so and some 150 undergraduates will spend spring break studying in London, Paris, Dublin, Costa Rica, the Bahamas and Alcala, Spain.

» SRU to Host 500 Dancers at American College Dance Festival
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s dance department will bring more than 500 dancers from 25 regional colleges and universities to campus when it hosts the American College Dance Festival for the Northeast March 10-14. Some of the dancers will go on to perform at Washington, D.C.’s, Kennedy Center.

» National Public Radio Features SRU Performance of 'Requiem for Fred Rogers'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  More than 1,000 area residents turned out for two performances of “In Memoriam: A Requiem for Fred Rogers,” written by Pittsburgher Luke Mayernick in honor of the famed children’s television personality and performed by Slippery Rock University’s Orchestra and Choir.

» New SRU, YSU Agreement Opens Engineering Degree Opportunities
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Current and potential Slippery Rock University students interested in studying engineering now have additional choices following Monday’s signing of an articulation agreement with Youngstown State University’s Rayen College School of Engineering and Technology.

» 'Neighbor Aber' to Join SRU Faculty for March 28 Concert
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University graduate Chuck Aber -- “Neighbor Aber” on “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”-- will join three SRU faculty for a benefit concert of chamber music 4 p.m. Sunday [March 28] in Swope Music Hall. Proceeds will fund musical scholarships at SRU.
