SRU’S OBSERVANCE OF WOMEN’S
HISTORY MONTHTO INCLUDE ‘VIGNETTES OF WOMEN FROM
THE PAST’
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Those interested in
unionization, civil rights, social justice, rhetoric, politics,
history, community activism and women’s studies are invited
to the “Women in History: Living Vignettes of Women from the
Past” presented by Slippery Rock University’s
Women’s Studies Program.
The
free lectures are part of SRU’s observance of Women’s
History Month.
“A
Woman: Ain’t I?” detailing the life of Sojourner Truth,
former slave, eloquent abolitionist and women’s right
advocate, will be presented by Kathryn Woods at 4 p.m. March 17 in
the Multi-Purpose Room of the University Union. “My Life and
Times,” presenting the life of Mother Jones, fiery unionist,
fighter on behalf of working people, played by Margaret A. Orner,
will be offered at 12:30 p.m. March 30 in the Eisenberg Classroom
Building Auditorium.
The
March 17 presentation is supported by the SRU’s Commission on
the Status of Women, Commission on Race and Ethnicity, Office of
Intercultural Programs and a grant from the Pennsylvania State
System of Higher Education Office of Diversity and Equal
Opportunity.
