LOCAL EXPERT AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT
ON BOMBINGS IN SPAIN
In
connection with today's rush-hour, train and station bombings in
Madrid, Spain, that killed and injured hundreds, we wanted you to
know that Jose Augustin Martinez-Samos, an assistant professor of
modern languages and cultures at Slippery Rock University and a
native of Spain, is available for comment and expert
opinion.
Martinez-Samos joined the SRU
faculty last fall coming from Spain to teach Spanish as well as
culture and literature classes on Spain. He grew up in Granada,
Spain, about five hours from Madrid, and has been in contact today
with family members there. He can provide background information on
the importance and influence of Basque separatists who are being
blamed for the worst terrorist attack in Spanish history. The group
has denied involvement and has condemned the
bombing.
He
can be reached at home at 724-776-6791 or by cell phone at
724-816-6104.
AND
In
addition, Kathryn "Katie" Roemele, an SRU senior
Spanish/international business major from the Fombell area of
Beaver Falls, is in Spain as part of a semester-long study program
at the University of Alcala, in Alcala de Henares, Spain, as part
of SRU's international study program. She reports this morning that
television and radio news throughout Spain are linking the bombings
to terrorists and likening them to American's 911 attacks. Roemele
further reports she and all other SRU students studying in Spain
are safe. Roemele and her fellow SRU students will return to campus
in May following completion of their studies. She can be reached
for further comment on her cell phone by dialing:
