Bloodborne Exposure Procedure
Policy #F&P 2003-2
I. SCOPE
This
procedure applies to University staff, faculty and student
employees who may
have an
exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious
materials
during the
course of their employment
II. PURPOSE
To provide
direction should an employee experience an exposure to
bloodborne
pathogens
during the course of work activities
III. PROCEDURE

Employee must report exposures to their supervisor. Should you
have a question on an exposure, contact Student Health Center
Medical Director.

Physician evaluation of exposure must occur within 72 hours.
Employees with needle sticks and/or other significant exposure are
directed to United Community Hospital’s (UCH) Emergency Room
ASAP.

Employees choosing medication are to be referred to Eckerd
Drugs, Grove City. If closed, the UCH Emergency Room will provide
the first dose of medication.

The above services will be paid for by SRU’s
Workmans’ Compensation program.

Complete Occupation Exposure Report, Workers’
Compensation Injury Report, and Sharps Injury Log if
applicable.

If no follow-up is desired employee must sign declination
form.

Non-significant exposure – refer to nursing protocol.
